Nowhere to Go: An Inescapable Cycle of Violence Amidst a Pandemic

“Peace is not just the absence of war. Many women under lockdown for #COVID19 face violence where they should be safest: in their own homes. Today I appeal for peace in homes around the world. I urge all governments to put women’s safety first as they respond to the pandemic,” said United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres in a recent tweet.

The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc in the lives of people globally, and an overlooked but dangerous consequence is the increase in domestic violence. With skyrocketing unemployment rates and increased time spent at home, abuse is more prevalent in households.
